Line-of-business Application Evaluation
Breakwater can advice on the fitness of your line-of-business (LOB) applications within the business by carrying out an independent, strategic IS review/audit to better understand the scalable nature of the application.
This assessment examines the quality and maturity of the current IT architecture, both from a technical, application and process framework perspective. It is based on IT industry best practices and Breakwater’s consultants’ practical experience across a range of technologies sectors.
It should be noted that Breakwater are not security specialists but will give an objective overview of the LOB applications, their scalability and will try to flag issues that could be of greater concern in the future.

A physical inspection of the LOB applications will be carried out by various competent consultants using a set of standard criteria based on evidence gathered using performance tools, manual data collection and circumstantial data gathering. Conclusions will also be derived and recommendations submitted based on Breakwater’s professional experience and expertise. It will detail any areas which cause particular concern from a best practice point-of-view.

Observe the complete build of the web applications and document every detail of the environment and build process

Analyse the security of company networks housing the LOB application, considering the potential of either internal or external attacks

Rigorously test the LOB application to ensure it is secure enough to cope with the transactions to undertake

Check the physical entry into buildings, obtaining sensitive information, impersonation and deception can be addressed

Check for compliancy with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)

Manually review systems against the seventh principal of the Data Protection Act 1998

Discover the infrastructure components which support the server and communications equipment

A statistical analysis of traffic generated on wide area links as well as local area network segments

Event log health check will provide a complete review of the server event

Map server load against other criteria, for example time of day
